This is an easy one-mile route that circles one of NC’s most beautiful mountain lakes. However, the loop trail around Bass Lake ranks among the very best Boone hiking trails. The park itself is wonderful to visit, and actually offers several worthwhile hikes. Either way, it’s just under a 10-mile drive. Riedlbauer's has one of the main parking area's of the trail network and hosts many events such as the RTMBA Enduro Fundraiser and the New York State Mountain Bike State Championships in September. The upper section has some nice climbs such as the Lower Moonshine Ridge Trail and Switchback Hill. The Winter Clove trails have two sections: The lower section features a fish pond, a beautiful waterfall, and a covered bridge. If you turn onto Pilsner Pass, you will wind up at the Mountain Brauhaus an authentic German Brauhaus featuring an outdoor deck. The Glen Falls House also has a separate tavern.įollow the Ale Trail towards Winter Clove and you will pass another beautiful trail-side waterfall, owned by Crystal Brook Resort. There are three waterfalls on this property: Glen Falls, Bridal Veil and the Ice Box. The Glen Falls trails are just across the road (and stream) from Riedlbauer's and accessible by crossing a 60 foot wooden bridge with miniature chainsaw-carved bears on its railings. Glen Falls House provides access to the easiest terrain in the Round Top area: Warpath Loop and Bridal Veil. The trails are a nice mix of single-track, double-track, and fire roads that are groomed for fat biking in the winter months. The interconnected network can be accessed by the public at a number of locations including: Riedlbauer’s Resort, Glen Falls House, Winter Clove Inn, Crystal Brook Resort and Mountain Brauhaus. The Round Top Trail Network, or Roundtopia, consists of over 20 miles of mountain bike trails located on private land aimed at serving the local community.
